Night-O & Search-and-Destroy-O
Cricket Holler Scout Camp, BSA - December 14, 2013

A great big thanks to everyone who came out on a wintry weather night to compete in the annual Night-O, Search-and-Destroy-O, and holiday potluck dinner.

We had 9 brave people come out to run out while it was drizzling and just above freezing temperatures, with all the snow turning to mush. Even though it was our smallest ever level of participation, everyone had a great time and it was a fun party during the potluck dinner. The event was our regular 1 hour score-style event, with each control (20 total) worth 1 point. Following that was the always fun Search-and-Destroy-O, where each control untied and brought back was worth 1 point. This year, 2 controls required control stands, which were worth an extra point.

We also chose this occasion to recognize the contributions of long time member and orienteer Fred Dudding. Without his enthusiastic participation and hard work in the 1980’s, the club and the local Boy Scout community would not be the same. Fred was thanked with a speech by club president Matt Bond, and presented with a small token of our gratitude, and a large printed map of the camp.

Thanks to Ben Bond, who designed and plotted the course in the computer software (Purple Pen), and to Matt Bond for field checking and setting of some controls.
